Letters to Miss Denny

Miss Denny has sent The Landing some photographs and emails about her trip. The children wrote some letters to Miss Denny to ask her about her trip.

Walter's Trip to Wellington

Walter shared a book about his trip to Wellington.
Walter’s Nana and Poppa created a book sharing the pictures of his trip.

Room 9 loved seeing the pictures and listening to Walter share about his trip. He also shared about his light up fidget spinner which he got for his 5th birthday.

Ethan Wins

Ethan entered a competition to win Stikbots for The Landing and himself… he WON!

He created a comic story about a dinosaur and a person.
The man and the dinosaur were walking along and then they had to sneak under a rock to get to the treasure. The dinosaur fell over and the man sadly died from the lava!
Oh no!

Room 9 were very excited and thankful. Ethan even thought of Mrs Roycroft’s boys and Mrs Nilsson’s daughter.

Thank you for working hard to win The Landing such an amazing treat, Ethan! We love them!

The Landing Goes Swimming

The Landing have enjoyed swimming over the last two weeks!

“We had to swim in pyjamas “ Isabella
“We wore a life jacket on the boat and went into the big pool” Avara
“We fell off the boat”  Ella
“The life jackets felt squishy” Mark
“We had a grab bag in case anything happen to the boat” Walter

“We made a circle so people could see us from up above”  Lauren

Trolley For The Tōtara Tree

We love watching our Team tōtara tree grow. We are in Team Tōtara and we are growing every day, just like our tree.
When we get our brand new tree we will be able to plant the tree somewhere special.
In the meantime, we have to take our tree outside every day so it gets the fresh air it needs. It is pretty heavy so Mrs Nilsson was very grateful to Robin's Dad for making us a wonderful trolley that she can use when she is moving the tree.
Thanks for showing aroha!!!

Where The Wild Things Are

We have enjoyed exploring the story Where The Wild Things Are this term.

One of the highlights was designing a boat for Max to sail
through night and day
and in and out of weeks
and almost over a year
to where the wild things are.

We thought carefully about our design plan and then had great fun using all the stuff from Creative Junk to make our boats.

Would it float or not? It was great fun trying them out. They all floated, except Mr Hastilow's (and when we talked about it we decided his Max was a bit too big!).

Cross Country

What a lovely Christchurch autumn day for our cross country.
Didn't the children do well!
We were very proud of their efforts and their behaviour.
It has been great that we have had such good weather and this enabled us to do lots of practices.

Welcome to Term 2

We are all happy to be back enjoying some lovely autumn days.

On Wednesday we enjoyed the Playhouse Theatre Group doing a very funny show based on Red Riding Hood. The Show was great, but watching the children's faces was even more enjoyable for the teachers!

The rain postponed Junior Cross Country is now on Wednesday 9 May at 11.00am. Fingers (and toes) crossed for a fine day - but if it does have to be postponed it will be rescheduled to Friday 11th at
11.00am.

For seven weeks, beginning in Week 2, we both have student teachers from the University Of Canterbury. Their names are Terilee Goffe and Adam Hastilow. We are sure you will see and hear lots of the things they will be doing.

We are looking forward to a busy and productive term of learning - and what a great start we have already made!

Rere Atu

We had a wonderful time at the Whole School Cultural Parade.
We enjoyed sharing our Māori poi song, Rere Atu, and dressing in the headbands and flags we had made to celebrate our different cultures.
We also enjoyed watching all the other classes share their items.
The Avonside Girls' High School and Shirley Boys' High School Pasifika groups were fantastic!
The sun even co-operated and shone on us.
Here is a photo of us just before it all started.

With Thanks

We would like to acknowledge and thank those of you who were able to collect your children early on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week while we both went to Paid Union Meetings.

We do realise that it wasn't possible for everyone, but the lower numbers of children in the classes certainly helped manage the day while we were operating on a skeleton staff.

"If it is a skeleton staff, will we hear the bones rattling?"
Ethan (and his Dad!)

Dancing

Part of our learning this term has been about dance. Why do we dance? When do we dance? Who dances? How do we dance?
This will lead in nicely to our whole school Cultural Celebration.
We had fun doing some dance about a poem called 'The Dancing Cat'. We read, danced and did some art work.
The art work looks so good that it is up on display in one of our school entrance ways.

Busy

We have had some busy days at school with lots of learning, talking and laughing. Our flower fun day was a great success. Thank you to those of you who were able to  support us by coming along or sending flowers and veggies. The children made some great creations!

What Did You Do At School Today?

"What did you do at school today?" .... Nothing.
Does this sound familiar?
Often children are tired at the end of the end and are only learning to be reflective, and this is the best answer they can give.
Try asking some of these questions ....

  • Did you help anyone today?
  • Did you like learning about the most?
  • What was the funniest thing that happened to you today?
Let us know how you get on.

Welcome to 2018

A warm welcome to 2018.

Look at us learning about our HEART values and working together (because 'Together Is Better!').

We are busy learning new things and new ways of learning. It's fun!

We will keep you up to date with some of our happenings in The Landing - so keep checking on our blog and make sure you write a comment. We love hearing what others think about our learning and achievements.
