The Bridge
In the middle of The Landing is a special place called The Bridge.
This is where the children go to engage in independent learning activities.
They can choose from a range of learning activities, such as; practising New Zealand Sign Language, reading stories on i-pads, reading Big Books, reading poems and practising their writing.
Here are just three of The Landing's fabulous self-managing learners enjoying school life.

Junior Science Club
Every Wednesday lunchtime learners in Team Totara have the opportunity to join in the Banks Avenue School Junior Science Club. We are great scientists and LOVE asking questions.
Look at us conducting an experiment with milk, food colouring and dishwashing liquid!
What would happen if we used water instead of milk?
What would happen if we mixed it up?
What would happen if we used more dishwashing liquid?
What great scientists!

Welcome to Term 3
Thank goodness for some nice frosty, sunny weather.
Your children seem happy to be back and so are their teachers!
We welcome Abby Kennedy who will be working alongside us for 5 weeks.
Your children seem happy to be back and so are their teachers!
We welcome Abby Kennedy who will be working alongside us for 5 weeks.
Kia ora koutou.
My name is Abby Kennedy and I am going to be the student teacher in your
child’s class for the first five weeks of Term 3.
This is my 3rd year studying the Bachelor of Teaching and
Learning at the University of Canterbury.
I feel very fortunate to be completing my final placement at Banks
Avenue School and I am very excited to begin!
I was brought up here in Christchurch and outside of my studies I enjoy
playing netball and volunteering for Radio Lollipop.
I am looking forward to getting to know your child and would love to
meet as many of you as is possible. If you see me around, please do not
hesitate to stop for a chat.
Ngā mihi,
Abby J

Keeping Our Teddy Bears Warm
We did lots of learning about how to keep our teddy bears warm.
We found out lots about different fabrics and then did experiments to test the insulation qualities of them.
We designed and made an outfit to keep our bears warm.
Look at some of the work we did!

Hui
Each week the whole of Team Totara get together to learn Māori phrases and waiata.
This week, because it is Māori Language Week, we are learning some new Māori vocabulary.
"He rā whatiwhati kō" - A day of hard work.
Panui is reading, and tuhituhi is writing.
Ka pai learners!
